Water taps ran dry of the residents of Madel, Fatorda on Thursday after the pipeline supplying water was ruptured due to road digging to lay an electric cable for the wholesale fish market.
Thousands of litres of water were wasted as the water gushed out from the damaged pipeline.
Agitated residents directed their ire at the contractor laying the underground cable, demanding to know how they have dug up the road without seeking details of the water and other pipelines lying underground.
As the residents hit the streets demanding immediate restoration of the water supply, the contractor promised to rectify the fault and plug the leakage.
The contractor pointed out the road digging was carried out to lay the underground electric cable for the wholesale fish market. The Power department has planned to supply power to the wholesale fish market on Friday.
