Agitated residents of Dandeavaddo-Chinchinim along with the Chinchinim Sarpanch Valentino Baretto questioned the demarcation exercise carried out by the PWD, National Highway as they insisted on their demand for a road bypass on the NH 66.
A government survey team descended at Dandeavaddo on Monday morning to conduct the demarcation of the land acquired by the government several years ago.
Sarpanch Valentino Barretto informed that the survey team as well as the PWD officials appeared a confused lot over the exact acquired area in their possession.
He pointed out that the people of Chinchinim are not against development, but questioned the rationale of the government for not conceding the demand for a road bypass at Dandeavaddo and Cuncolim.
“At almost every place, the PWD is going in for the road bypasses to decongest traffic. At Dandeavaddo, the PWD has proposed a flyover when the residents have been insisting for a road bypass. The PWD is confusing the people on the issue”, he said.
Panch member Gerson Gomes sounded a word of caution to the government not to play with sentiments of people.
“The people of Chinchinim have been peacefully demanding a road bypass instead of a flyover at Dandeavaddo. All this time, the people have been peacefully pursuing their demand, but the government has repeatedly cold shouldered them”, he said.
