PANAJI: The Goa Legislative Assembly passed a vote on account for five months for a total of Rs 6,122.57 crore after a brief discussion on Thursday.
Chief Minister defended the budget saying that it has been well appreciated by all sections of the society reiterating that there was something in it for everyone.
“The budget has been largely appreciated by all people. We have taken care of everyone,” Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said.
Earlier, during the discussion on the vote of account, ex-chief minister Digambar Kamat questioned the government for failing to table an action taken report on the previous year’s budget.
“When I was chief minister I had started a practice of tabling an action taken report which presented the status of the previous year’s budget and the assurances. This time we do not have it so we do not even know what has happened of the so many promises given the last time,” Kamat said.
He pointed out to several budgetary provisions which were announced last time including Rs 50 crore for the South Goa District Hospital, Rs 120 crore for the national games to be held in the state as well as money for an international convention centre to be set up in the state.
“As far as my knowledge goes, none of this has materialised. What has happened of the money? If there was an action taken report we would have known,” Digambar Kamat said.
He also chided the government for continuing to blame the previous government even four years after the previous government has ceded office.
“You have to check whether you are fulfilling your own promises of the previous year instead of continuously speaking about the earlier government,” Kamat said.
Opposition leader Pratapsingh Rane too hit out at the government over the budget saying that several of the figures in the budget have been fudged and hence have no credibility.
Opposition MLA Rohan Khaunte termed the budget and “election manifesto of the BJP” and saying that all the proposals suggested by the chief minister are only on paper and offered nothing concrete.
