The gram sabha of Rumdamol village panchayat on Sunday has demanded a crackdown on casino gambling in the village.
The issue dominated the gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Saimulla Faniband as agitated members demanded a stop to the gambling activities.
While pointing out that casino gambling has ruined families in the village, the members demanded that the panchayat forcefully take up the matter with the police to put an end to the menace.
Expressing his full support to the villagers to root out casino gambling from the village, Sarpanch Saimulla placed before the sabha the correspondence made by the local body to the police and other authorities to root out the menace from the village.
The Sarpanch assured the members that the panchayat would once again bring the issue before the police and district authorities with a plea to order a crackdown on the illegal activity.
The Sarpanch later informed that casino gambling was being carried out in as many as three premises in the village, adding that the activity has ruined a numbers of families.
Incidentally, the Sarpanch paid a visit to the three premises before the commencement of the gram sabha meeting on Sunday, only to find these closed. Saimulla said the panchayat would dash off another letter to the police for appropriate action.
