Vijay Dalvi has been elected unopposed as Sarpanch of Salvador do Mundo.
The post of sarpanch had fallen vacant following the ouster of former sarpanch Antonio Fernandes in a no-confidence motion by 5-0 votes in the eight-member panchayat last week. The Mapusa Block Development Officer had convened a special meeting in the panchayat office on Monday to elect the new sarpanch.
In all, five panch members, Sandeep Salgaonkar, Vijay Dalvi, Dy Sarpanch Reena Fernandes, Suvarnalata Parsekar and Hemant Borkar attended the meeting while Bhagwant Naik, Vijay Chodankar and Antonio Fernandes remained absent.
The Mapusa BDO had deputed Kushali Halarnkar as presiding officer to conduct the election proceedings with the assistance of Panchayat Secretary Satish Gawas.
Since Dalvi was the lone candidate to file a nomination, he was elected unopposed as sarpanch of the Salvador do Mundo.
