Frequent disruption of power supply, hike in electricity charges, water scarcity, widening and hotmixing of roads, panchayat ground and other issues were discussed in the Salvador do Mundo gram sabha held on Sunday.
A resident Joseph Pinto mentioned that overhead electric cables were faulty and hence there is frequent disruption in power supply. Due to voltage fluctuations, home appliances get damaged. The service of the electricity department is quite poor, said Pinto.
Sarpanch Roshni Savaikar mentioned that the electricity department will be laying underground electric cables shortly.
Another resident Dinesh Dias mentioned that the electricity department has proposed hike in electric charges by 7 to 14% effective from April 1, 2024. He said these charges are quite high and hence panchayat should write to electricity department that these charges are not acceptable to the people and that the department should focus on recovering the pending dues, said Dias.
The villagers also demanded that panchayat should not issue permission for the swimming pools and tube wells in the panchayat area.The residents are facing acute shortage of water presently, the villagers complained.
Savaikar stated that FC GOA has not renewed the contract for the usage of the Panchayat Ground. They have informed verbally that the monthly rent of Rs1,50,000/- being charged by Salvador do Mundo panchayat is quite high and hence they are not interested in renewing the contract .
The villagers mentioned that near Holly Family Church and O’Coqueiro junctions, the pedestrian crossing signs are missing and thus it becomes difficult for the pedestrians to cross the road .The pedestrians crossing signs should be installed at both the aforesaid junctions, said villagers.
The gram sabha witnessed heated arguments when a villager made a statement about the residents of Defence Colony on fencing of the area. The villagers said the defence personnel deserve respect as they have guarded our borders and hence they said the concerned villager should apologize for the statement. The situation became tense when the said villager refuse to apologize for the statement. Finally a resolution was adopted unanimously condemning the said statement.
Earlier sarpanch Roshni Savaikar welcomed the villagers. The secretary Pravisha Bhonsle read out the minutes of the gram sabha meeting held October 22, 2023. The Deputy Sarpanch Namrata Chodankar proposed vote of thanks.
