In an interesting development, the Sarpanch of Carmona village Winston Dias has quit office citing personal reasons.
The Sarpanch tendered his resignation around three days ago to the panchayat authorities. When The Goan contacted him to shed light on the development, Winston confirmed that he has already sent in his resignation to the panchayat authorities. "My resignation has nothing to do with the issues facing the panchayat. The decision is purely personal nature in nature," he said, when asked whether he has decided to quit office in view of the host of issues that have come to haunt the panchayat body over the last several months.
Winston had assumed office after the panchayat general election in June last year and had to face a number of issues, including the Raheja tangle, the Verda resort which was granted permission for commercial use by the previous body.
