Sawant rules out Cabinet berths for 2 more legislators

MARGAO

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday sought to rule out induction of the two Congress-turned-BJP MLAs in his Cabinet, preferring to term such reports as mere speculations.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the on-going three day national Executive committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad here on Saturday evening, the Chief Minister said “reports doing the rounds on the Cabinet berths for two MLAs are just speculations. There is nothing like that happening”.

When the media further asked him to shed light on reports that the Congress may further split in the coming days, the Chief Minister asserted “no one is joining the party”.

Incidentally, top party leaders including BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar, Party Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar, party leader Damu Naik were all huddled together with the Chief Minister in the same hotel which is playing host to the National Executive Committee meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad.

There have been intense speculations in political circles that the BJP had given the clearance for the induction of Congress-turned-BJP MLAs Digambar Kamat and Alexio Sequeira in the Pramod Sawant Cabinet. Speculations were rife that the proposed Cabinet induction may take place during the weekend.

It will be seven months on April 14 that Digambar and Alexio along with six other Congress MLAs had quit the Congress to embrace the BJP. Since then speculations have been rife that the duo from Saxtti will find berths in the Sawant Cabinet.
