Security guard of Vasco church assaulted brutally

A security guard at St Andrew’s church was brutally assaulted by five men in the church premises on Monday night.

According to reports , the security guard, Pratap B K, was in the church premises when the incident happened at about 10.45 pm and the entire act was captured on the CCTV.

The footage showed five men chasing and assaulting the guard brutally until he fell on the floor. The five men later continued assaulting the fallen guard on the floor with fist blows and kicks.

Sources at Vasco police station said earlier in the evening, the security guard Pratap B K had been involved in a fight with one Karan Thapa.

Thapa later went home and narrated the incident to his wife and son. Angered by the incident, Thapa’s son, Nikit (22) later went along with his three friends, Rahul Deshmukh (23), Sandesh Ghadi (27) and Neeraj Narvekar (19), all from Vasco in search of Pratap B K.

“They assaulted B K who was on his duty at the church premises. They left him there and later fled from the site. The parish priest of St Andrew’s Church Fr Gabriel Coutinho along with the injured security guard then notified the police and the accused were arrested on Tuesday for offences under Sections 143, 147, 323, 506 (II), r/w 149 IPC, the source added. 


Bird festival website launched 

PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched a dedicated website (www.birdfestival.goa.gov.in) on bird festival at his official residence Altinho, Panaji. Forest Department of Goa, will be organizing its third edition of Bird Festival from January 17 to 19, 2020, at Valpoi and Surla of Sattari taluka.

Goa is home to over 450 species of birds both residents and migratory. The Bird Festival aims to generate awareness towards wildlife and their habitat conservation with special emphasis on birds.
