Seed given to Fatorda farmers
MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has distributed paddy seeds to the entire rice growing
farming community of Fatorda constituency at a function held at Fatorda.
Sardesai who has been sponsoring all farming allied facilities right from seeds to harvesting for
the past seven years for the Fatorda farmers, stressed on the urgent need to revive the dying
occupation. He also spoke of his plans to convert traditional farming into organic farming, which in
turn will be more profitable to the farming community.
Speaking further, the Independent MLA disclosed plans to set up a Farmers Market so that the
farmers of Fatorda are provided with an avenue to market the produce that they grow locally in
Fatorda.
Vijai said that traditional farmers from Fatorda producing vegetables and fruits were being driven
away from markets like Ponda saying that they were outsiders, adding “hence I have taken the initiative to set up a farmers market at my own cost so that Fatorda farmers can market produce they have grown in Fatorda itself.”
