Senior intelligence officer at Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI), Goa regional unit Vitobh Shetty, was conferred with the President Award. Shetty was awarded in the category called ‘specially distinguished record of the service’.
The award was presented by Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley during the investiture ceremony held in New Delhi recently.
DGCEI is a financial intelligence agency under the department of revenue, ministry of finance and has all India jurisdiction to investigate the cases of central excise and service tax evasion.
Shetty, who has been posted in Goa since 2009, is instrumental in detecting more than Rs 300 crore of tax evasion in the areas of central excise and service tax and recovery of taxes more than Rs 100 crore. 40 officials from all over India were selected for these awards for the year 2015. These officers have been selected on the basis of their exemplary and flawless performances in the field of service.
