MARGAO
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday contended that the South Goa Sessions Court has no jurisdiction to entertain the anticipatory bail application filed by Leader of the Opposition, Babu Kavlekar.
When the bail came up for hearing before Principal Sessions Judge, B P Deshpande, Special Public Prosecutor, G D Kirtani represented the ACB, moved an application saying the South Goa sessions court has no jurisdiction to hear Babu’s bail plea since the offence pertaining to the Disproportionate Assets case is registered in North Goa.
The lawyer, representing the Leader of the Opposition, however, submitted that he would file a rejoinder to the application filed by the Investigating Agency challenging the jurisdiction of the South Sessions court to hear the bail application.
Judge Deshpande later adjourned the matter for hearing on February 23 afternoon. Babu Kavlekar has already got an interim relief from the Sessions Court by way of
an interim bail and the same is extended till the final disposal of the anticipatory bail application.
