S-Goa Collector under Khaunte’s scanner

In keeping with his indomitable style of functioning, Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte has cracked the whip on the Collector of South Goa for neglecting to conduct an inquiry into forgery and irregularities in ordinary budgets of Office of Administrator of Comunidades, South Zone.

In a confidential communication in possession of The Goan issued last week, the government invited the Collector’s attention to letter dated August 1, 2016, and noted that no inquiry report has been received.
While stating that “the matter being serious in nature due care and importance needs to be given for expeditious completion of inquiry into the matter”, the Collector has been directed to submit the inquiry report before March 31 positively.
When contacted, South Goa Collector Swapnil Naik told The Goan that the matter is already being investigated by the Additional Collector. “The investigation was held up due to the Assembly elections and the inquiry will be continued into the matter,” Naik said.
Rubbishing Naik’s claim that the elections had held up the inquiry, a Comunidade component told The
Goan that the letter was addressed to the Collector on August 1, 2016.
“The collector had five months from August to December to complete the inquiry, which only shows that it is an attempt to shield the officer,” the component said.
