MARGAO
The sprawling SGPDA grounds received the much needed facelift when the parking lot was hot mixed on the eve of the National skating championship earlier this month.
The SGPDA parking lot resembled an eyesore as the ground played host to tons of plastic and dry waste left behind by the Purumentachem fest fair.
Visitors to the SGPDA market complex and the Osia commercial complex complained that the SGPDA parking ground has been turned into an eyesore with the entire area littered with plastic and dry waste.
A visitor pointed out that while the SGPDA ground had played host to the Purumentachem fest fair for eight days in violation of the High Court order, which had capped the fair to seven days, the ground has now been left dirty with the Margao Municipality yet to lift away the waste.
Questions are being raised in local circles over the delay by the Margao Municipal Council to lift away the waste generated in the market.
For, information suggests that the MMC had levied fees on the hawkers consisting of the occupation fees and the garbage fees.
It’s not clear whether the MMC did not charge the hawkers doing business on the SGPDA ground for the garbage fees for the reason that the PDA had levied fees on the activity.
