Shel-Melauli locals back agitating taxi operators

Taximen say they will resort to jail bharo andolan

Shel-Melauli locals, who have successfully agitated and forced the government to roll back the IIT project in their village, on Sunday extended their support to the agitating taxi operators with a demand to scrap GoaMiles.

“We just came in small number today to support the agitating taxi operators. If a call is given, all Sattari people will come in full numbers in support of the taxi operators,” said a youth leader from Shel-Melauli while addressing the media in the presence of the agitating taxi operators at Panaji.

As the permission to hold agitation at Azad Maidan has been denied by the district collector, the taxi operators have continued their protest gathering in front of the Azad Maidan.

Also, other taximen have started agitating in the local talukas gathering at their respective taxi stands. The protesting taxi operators have kept their taxis offroad continuously for the 13th consecutive day.

 “We request the government to solve the issue as early as possible. We will continue to agitate,” said Chetan Kamat, President of All Goa tourist taxi association.

He said that the agitation will continue and threatened a a jail bharo agitation if the government uses police force to disperse them.  

He demanded that the government should take a decision before the agitation grows bigger with the support of the Goan people. Now, the Melauli people have supported us and soon the whole of Goa will also come in support, he added.
