Shivaji’s ideals relevant even today: Sawaikar

South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar said Maratha warrior king Shivaji Maharaj fought for the betterment of the society and his ideals ideals hold relevance even in the present era.
Addressing a gathering in his capacity as the chief guest on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti organised by Maratha Mitra Mandal at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on Sunday, the South Goa MP said in order to understand history, one needs to read about great historical personalities, one of them being Shivaji Maharaj.
Informing the audience about the warrior king’s establishment of ‘Hindavi Swaraj’ during his very short reign, Sawaikar said society needs to draw inspiration from such a personality for developing into an ideal personality in the society. “Shivaji Maharaj is relevant even today,” Sawaikar remarked.
He said said Shivaji united society and the relevance of this king is exemplified by the fact that his ideals can be applied even in the present era. “His style of politics, economic concepts and religious integration still hold relevance,” Sawaikar stated and added, “We draw inspiration from him.”
Speaking on this occasion, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Damu Naik said Shivaji’s concept of developing rapport with the people to win the world can be implemented even today. “There can be no comparison to his valour and to the example of governance which he set during his short tenure from 1630 to 1680,” Naik added.
He highlighted the late king’s concepts such as river navigation, steps towards betterment of women and importance to farmers. “He was an ideal ruler. His vision was to keep all his subjects contented,” Naik remarked.
MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik, who also addressed the gathering, urged women to help their fellow female folk, even as she highlighted the importance of educating the girl child. She called upon women to derive advantage from schemes formulated by the government. Those present on the occasion included president of Mandal’s central committee Vishnu Nikam, keynote speaker Sujit Mane from Karad (Maharashtra) who later addressed the gathering. State secretary of the Mandal, B M Chowgule compered the function.

Betul Gram Sabha to issue show-cause notices to GIDC and DefExpo organisers
