The Collector Dr Sachin Shinde has also called for reports by the taluka-level panels to inspect government buildings to rule out breeding sites in and around the building premises.

That the Collector has decided to issue directions to the GIDC assumes significance in view of the outbreak of dengue at the Nessai industrial estate and malaria at the Cuncolim Industrial estate last year. In fact, dengue has raised its ugly head at the Nessai industrial estate, affecting both migrants as well as local residents of Sao Jose de Areal.
Representatives of GOACAN led by its convenor Roland Martins drew attention of the authorities to the situation at the Nessai industrial estate where closed units were used as makeshift scrap yards and also to house manpower in violation of labour norms.
