MARGAO
Exactly after a week since Margao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes proceeded on leave, the government has handed over the charge of Margao Municipal Chief Officer to South Goa Additional Collector, Surendra Naik.
Though the Additional Collector did not make his presence felt at the civic body on Thursday, he is believed to have cleared important files which had been awaiting the Chief Officer’s signature for the past one week.
Naik told The Goan that he has cleared the files which were brought to his office in the South Goa Collectorate on Thursday.
It’s exactly a week now since the MMC Chief Officer had proceeded on leave, but no substitute was arranged by the state administration in the last seven days.
Normally, whenever the MMC Chief Officer proceeds on leave, the Mormugao Municipal Chief Officer automatically takes additional charge of Margao given the status as the link officer. The system, however, went haywire as the Mormugao Chief Officer also proceeded on leave, prompting the Director of Municipal Administration to write to the personnel department to depute the Additional Collector, South to hold additional charge of MMC Chief Officer till May 18, when the regular Chief Officer is expected to resume office.
