MARGAO
When would the Margao Municipal Council undertake a waste lifting operation along the Comba ring road along the lines of the waste clearance operation conducted at the Aquem ring road, is a question that may come to haunt the City Fathers and Babus.
Unlike Aquem, the Comba ring road may not be an eyesore for the travelling public as the waste is found dumped along the low areas of a near-kilometre stretch.
However, the tonnes of dry and plastic waste dumped along the Comba ring road poses a danger to the ecology as it threatens to be washed into the adjoining river Sal during the ensuing monsoons.
It is feared that the waste, once it finds its way into the river Sal, may flow into the Arabian sea at Betul, where the Sal river empties into the sea.
The Goan understands that while the MMC has got its act together to rid the Aquem ring road stretch of the eyesore, no plan is put in place to carry out a similar operation at the Comba stretch, connecting the city at the Comba subway in Margao constituency to the Old market circle, coming under Fatorda constituency.
