The South Goa District Road Safety Committee in its meeting on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha took stock of the rising fatalities due to road accidents in South Goa.
Nine persons have lost their lives in the last eight days.
The meeting was attended by Surendra F Naik Additional Collector-I, Roshell Fernandes Deputy Collector (DRO), Prabodh B Shirvoikar DySp Traffic (South), Pralhad S Desai Addl Director of Transport (South), Lorna Fernandes Secretary GOACAN, Reshma V Chanekar (DEO) South Education Zone, Prasad Panandikar EE-VI PWD, Dattaprasad S Kamat EE WD-XIV (NH) PWD, Rajesh T Gaude AE-II WD-XIV (NH) PWD, Ajit M Gaonkar Principal Govt Polytechnic Curchorem and Dr R B Lohani Principal Goa Engineering College.
Sardinha requested the PWD officials to fast track the pending files on estimates and tenders in view of the compliance report required to be submitted to the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety).
Among the other issues discussed were the need to paint all speed breakers, lack of speed limit signages, police booths to be set up at major junctions, compilation of quarterly district level road accident statistics and need for a status report on road safety measures by NHAI to curb fatalities occurring on the 13-km Verna to Varunapuri stretch.
