Newly-elected speaker of Goa legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar has decided to hold a hearing on disqualification petition against members of legislative assembly Manohar ‘Babu’ Ajgaonkar and Deepak Pauskar on July 1
Notices have been issued by the Speaker to the petitioner MLA Sudin Dhavalikar and the two MLAs to be present on the day of hearing.
It may recalled that the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) in May had filed a disqualification petition before the then acting Speaker of the Assembly, Michael Lobo, against its former MLAs.
Dhavalikar in his petition had claimed that Ajgaonkar and Pauskar (who are now ministers in the government) had voluntarily given up membership of their original party and thus incurred disqualification on grounds of defection.
Dhavalikar in the petition also stated that MGP had not taken any resolution to merge with BJP. There was no meeting convened to take any such decision to merge the MGP into BJP.
Dhavalikar has alleged that BJP has engineered the defection terming it as ‘bedroom’ merger and alleging that merger is illegal and unconstitutional.
