Special Court set up to clear mounting land dispute cases

PANAJI

In a major push to clear the backlog of land-related disputes and applications, the State government has launched the ‘Goa Special Court’ to fast-track cases relating to Mhaje Ghar, tenancy, mundkarial, mutation, partition and Forest Rights Act, with a target to dispose of all pending matters by December 31, 2026.

The initiative was launched by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate. The Special Court will bring together Collectors, Deputy Collectors and Mamlatdars to expedite the processing and disposal of land-related cases.

As part of the initiative, government offices dealing with land-related matters will remain open on seven special Saturdays across November and December to facilitate the public. From next Saturday, three Saturdays in November and four Saturdays in December have been earmarked for this purpose.

Sawant said directions had been issued to officials to prioritise these matters and ensure that all pending cases are cleared by the end of December. The government intends to give particular attention to applications under the Mhaje Ghar scheme, besides pending tenancy, mundkarial and mutation cases.

The initiative will also cover partition matters and cases under the Forest Rights Act, with the government seeking to address delays in revenue-related procedures through coordinated action by the concerned authorities.

Panchayat offices, Mamlatdars, Deputy Collectors and the Directorate of Settlement and Land Records (DSLR) will remain open on these days to assist people with documentation, applications and other requirements connected with their land-related cases.

The Chief Minister said the special working days were intended to help applicants complete pending documentation and remove procedural hurdles that often delay the disposal of cases.

He also urged local MLAs to visit the respective offices and take stock of the progress, while ensuring that people facing difficulties receive assistance.

The government has set December 31, 2026, as the deadline to clear all pending land-related cases under the initiative.
