Six girl students of a Guddi-Paroda-based higher secondary school were rushed to the Hospicio hospital in Margao on Tuesday evening after they complained of nausea and vomiting. They complained of some strong odour in the classroom.
The six students were admitted in the hospital for observation as a matter of caution, informed Hospicio Medical Superintendent, Dr Ira Almeida. She said all the students are stable and are being kept under observation.
The students were brought to the Hospicio after they complained of nausea and abdominal pain after they sensed a strong odour in the classroom. A student, who has been admitted at Hospicio, informed that the students sensed some strong odour in the classroom.
The incident is believed to have occurred during the recess time when the students suddenly started getting the strong odour. Soon after, a student complained of vomiting and giddiness.
A parent of a girl student told the media at the Hospicio that her ward has complained of giddiness and vomiting because of the strong smell. “No one knows how the smell suddenly originated in the classroom or whether someone had sprayed any substance around,” the parent said.
Dr Ira Almeida, however, said there’s nothing to worry about as the students admitted in the hospital have been only kept under observation.
“I have enquired with the doctors treating the students and they have informed that the students had complained of nausea. We have no idea about the reason behind the incident,” she said, adding that the students, who are under observation will be discharged only after they are examined by a consultant.
