The vice chancellor however declined to intervene stating that they instead move the court.
The aggravated students had a five-hour protest and set an ultimatum of 24 hours to the principal to tender his resignation failing which they have threatened to intensify the agitation. The 74 first and second-year students furious over being denied their marks marched to the VC’s office with placards along with Goa Forward chief spokesperson Prashant Naik and members Durgadas Kamat and Tanveer Khatib.
According to the students, 108 of them were debarred from answering semester one and three exams for failing to conform to the norm of 75 percent attendance. The management of the college had permitted them to answer the exam but only after attending remedial classes to make up for the lack in their attendance. Those who did, were allowed to answer the exam in April. Later in May however, their results were not declared but were in turn told to take readmissions.
The Goa Forward chief spokesperson said, “We are giving a 24-hour ultimatum to Shetye and the Principal of Dhempe College to tender their resignations or else we will intensify our agitation. We will go to each and every nook of this state and intensify our agitation.”
The students also have threatened to close down the university. “If our demands are not met we will see how the Goa University functions,” said one student and was acknowledged by the rest of students by claps.
Kamat pointed to the chancellors’ extension with the issuing of an ordinance and said the same could be done to accommodate the students as well. Shetye however said that the move would have repercussions in other colleges around the state.
