Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said the Tamnar power transmission project is necessary for Goa, adding that with the present Supreme Court’s decision on alignment of line, there will be no destruction of trees.
"Many people have a negative opinion about the Tamnar project. At one time, I too used to say it was bad. Now, a new alignment connecting the Supa line has been approved by the Supreme Court. We don't have to cut new trees now. Only those trees causing problems to the present line will be cut. We have decided that a new project line will be laid along the present line,” said Dhavalikar.
Stating that the Supa electricity development project in Karnataka generates 2600 Mw through solar energy, Dhavalikar said Goa receives 1200Mw of this 2600 Mw generated at Supa.
"If we are getting this energy at a throwaway price, we should go ahead. If we don't go for this power purchase, then Goa has to increase the power rate, he added,” said Dhavalikar.
Dhavalikar said following his suggestion, then CM late Manohar Parrikar had taken a decision to merge the power department and renewable energy for better coordination.
Dhavalikar said that 5 projects will be completed in 15 days and solar energy projects would be installed in Government colleges.
"Under the Smart City project, almost 1.6 Mw work worth Rs 9 crore in Panaji has been taken up and the tendering process is complete. The work order will be issued in 15 days,” said Dhavalikar.
