Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has said he has extended his support in writing to the BJP to form the new government in the State in the best interests of the people of Curtorim and the constituency.
He said the people of Curtorim had to be in the opposition for the last 10 years for no fault of theirs, but because of the mistakes done by the Congress party. “The mistakes done by the Congress leaders have not only cost the party, but my constituency as well. People of Curtorim had reposed their faith in me for the last 15 years, but they have to be in the opposition because of the Congress leaders as their mistakes cost the party the government,” he said.
On his induction in the BJP cabinet, Reginaldo said he has extended support to the BJP with the good intention, keeping the interests of his people and the constituency in mind. “When you do something with good intentions, even God is with you. I have given my support to the BJP in writing in the best interests of my people and my constituency,” he added.
The Curtorim Independent MLA was re-elected in the just concluded Assembly election, to play his fourth successive innings from the constituency. Despite changing the parties at the last moment, the people of Curtorim stood by him by giving him a comfortable margin of victory. Incidentally, the Congress leadership had roped in party national leader Rahul Gandhi in Curtorim, who had given a call to the people to defeat the defector.
“I have received the mandate from a cross section of the people of Curtorim. People from all villages and from all religious backgrounds have voted for me to give me a comfortable victory,” he said.
Meanwhile, Reginaldo said he now plans to lift away the waste dumped along the Sonsodo-Raia-Curtorim junction road regularly to keep the place clean. “Today, my vehicle went to the Sonsodo-Raia junction and collected the dry waste dumped along the road. I have been doing the waste collection with my vehicles and labourers, but I now intend to carry out the exercise regularly,” he added.
