Call it man-made or otherwise, water crisis hit the government Junta residential quarters at Pajifond-Fatorda on Tuesday, leaving the beleaguered residents to fan out with buckets and containers to fetch water.
Trouble began in the morning when the taps suddenly went dry at around 10 am. Assuming that the supply will be restored by noon, the residents went about their daily chores by using water stored in their houses.
It was only in the evening that realization dawned that the problem was attributed to the water pump at the PWD water supply, Monte Hill. With no sign of the water till 6.30 pm, some of the residents, including children descended on the pumping station to collect the water in their buckets.
They demanded to know why the PWD could not repair a pump and whether there was any negligence on the part of any official for the delay in repairing the pump causing the water crisis.
Residents called up the outgoing councillor Angelis Pereira as well as Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai to use their good offices to restore the water supply.
It was only at around 7.40 pm that water pumping started, but the operation came to a halt due to a technical fault, and the workers were seen engaged in undertaking the repairs till late Tuesday.
