MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council has assured the villagers of Sao Jose de Areal that the Municipality will take care to ensure that the dry waste transported to the Nessai industrial estate for baling will be covered with tarpaulin.
Social activist Freddy Travasso on Monday held discussions with Margao Municipal Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar and Municipal Engineer Deepak Desai on the contentious issue of Municipal trucks transporting the dry waste in open trucks.
The meeting assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that the residents of Areal had on Saturday stopped a Margao Municipal truck on the ground that the vehicle had transported the waste without taking care to cover the waste.
Travasso told The Goan after the meeting that the Chief Officer and the Municipal engineer had assured him that the MMC would take precaution to ensure that the trucks transporting dry waste to the Nessai industrial estate will be suitably covered.
Chief Officer Sankhwalkar later told the media that the MMC would take care that waste transported in the open trucks will be covered so that the vehicles do not cause nuisance to the people of Areal. He said the Margao Municipal has ordered a couple of closed trucks for waste transportation, adding that the new vehicles, once purchased, will be deployed to transport the waste to Nessai.
