Former minister and ex-Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar has taken strong objection to statements by his former colleague and ex-minister Ramesh Tawadkar that BJP was responsible for the defeat of its Bahujan Samaj candidates contesting the 2017 assembly elections, adding that his statements were completely false.
Addressing a news conference, Parulekar said former Canacona MLA Tawadkar, who has announced his candidature for the Lok Sabha polls, had made the statements out of frustration.
“Tawadkar should not forget that the BJP had helped him get elected in the 2012 assembly election and made him sports minister.”
“Prior to issuing tickets to candidates to contest the 2017 assembly elections , the BJP had done a survey of each constituency. Based on the outcome of the survey and after having a discussion with respective mandals, the BJP had distributed tickets to its candidates,” said Parulekar.
Commenting on his own defeat from Saligao constituency in the 2017 polls, Parulekar said BJP was not responsible for his defeat.
“In democracy, people are supreme and one should accept and respect the verdict of the electorate. I has been a karyakarta of BJP for the last 23 years and have served the party in various capacities.”
