CANACONA
The issue of resuming halts of long distance trains at the Canacona railway station has gained further momentum, with the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) submitting a memorandum to the Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Saturday.
CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar is likely to accompany Tawadkar to Delhi to meet with railway and other officials to pursue the demands of the people from Canacona.
On Saturday, Naikgaunkar along with councillors submitted a resolution of the CMC demanding resumption in halt of long-distance trains at the Canacona KRC Station, which was discontinued following the Covid lockdown.
Tawadkar is reported to have assured the Canacona councillors full cooperation in the matter.
Sources said Tawadkar along with the CMC Chairperson will leave for Delhi on Sunday, to put forward the demand of Canconcars before the Railways Ministry.
A few days ago, the Canacona BJP Mandal also submitted a letter to Tawadkar, requesting him to pursue the demand of resuming train halts at the Canacona railway station.
It may be recalled that various organisations including Swabhimani Jagruth Canaconkars, Forum for Senior Citizens of Canacona, Vision and Mission-Progressive Canacona, Jana Sena Warriors under the banner of Canacona Railway Stop Bachao Action Committee (CRSBAC) have been agitating for the resumption of long distance train halts at Canacona KRC Station.
The CRSBAC has issued an ultimatum to resume the train halts before February 10 or to face an intensified agitation, including Rail-roko or Canacona Bandh.
