Taximen in Pernem have decided to hold a chain protest by the roadside leading to Manohar International Airport in Mopa on Thursday to press for their demand for a special Yellow-Black Taxi counter at the airport.
Stating this, leaders of the taximen told media persons at a news conference in Pernem on Wednesday that they would continue with their agitation till the government allotted them a Yellow-Black taxi counter.
Sudeep Tamhankar said a dharna had been staged on January 2 when Pernem MLA Praveen Arlekar visited the site and led a delegation of taximen to meet Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to resolve the issue.
“The decision was not positive and there is still no agreement between the government and the taxi operators. Pednekars do not want a limited number of taxis to operate from Mopa airport and all taxi operators in Pernem taluka should be permitted to operate.”
“Unless and until the demands of taxi operators are met, our agitation will continue and we will stage a chain protest by the roadside leading to Mopa airport on Thursday to highlight our grievances. We will continue our protest till a Yellow-Black taxi counter is allotted to taxi operators from Pernem taluka,” Tamhankar added while appealing to people to join in the protest.
Advocate Jitendra Gawkar said the taxi operators would continue their agitation till they get justice.
Bhaskar Narulkar said they had met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and were given an assurance but the Yellow-Black Taxi counter had not been notified as yet.
