TCP gets 170 pleas on building law tweaks

PANAJI

The draft notification proposing changes in the Goa (Regulation of Land Development and Building Construction), Act, 2010, to provide for construction for a number of activities like yoga centres, farm houses and open air religious and sports centres in green zones has received 170 petitions from the general public and organisations including one village panchayat either voicing objections or giving suggestions.

According to a written reply furnished by Town and Country Planning Minister, Vishwajit Rane, the draft notification and these petitions from the public are still under "consideration" of the steering committee contemplated under the Goa (Regulation of Land Development and Building Construction) Act, 2010.

Rane also said, the decisions by the Steering Committee on the objections/suggestions to these draft regulations are still being minuted.

The information was sought by Vijai Sardesai through an unstarred question in which he had also sought to know if the TCP department had any plans to actively promote 'green buildings'.

Rane responded saying the proposal to promote 'green buildings' is also under the consideration of the Steering Committee.

The proposed changes in the land development laws had triggered widespread criticism as it proposed to permit construction in hitherto green zones including agricultural fields.
