Tension at Uguem over temple incident

Tension flared up at Uguem-Sanguem on Monday, after a mentally unsound person allegedly placed a cross on an idol in a temple at Uguem. Sanguem police later detained the accused in this connection.
Hundreds of locals gathered at the temple on hearing about the incident and Sanguem PI Uttam Dessai and his team arrived at the site and interacted with the locals and ensured that peace reigned. Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai later visited the site and also held talks with the residents.
According to sources, police conducted a panchanama at the site and detained the accused, also from Uguem, as further investigations are in progress.
