Those involved in noble service during floods to be honoured on Dec 19: CM

Financial relief distributed to flood-affected people in Bicholim

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the State government plans to felicitate those who have performed laudable job of rescuing people during the recent floods at a function on December 19.  

He was speaking after handing over cheques for financial relief to 40 of the 110 flood-affected families from Bicholim taluka at the Deendayal Bhavan in Bicholim.  

Those present at the function included Speaker Rajesh Patnekar, District Collector R Maneka, Additional Collector Dasharath Redkar, Deputy Collector Sachin Desai, Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit and others.  

“The government has provided financial aid through disaster management and chief minister’s relief fund with an intention to help flood-affected people urgently. A total of Rs 1.5 crore will be provided to the flood-affected families and the relief will be ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1,10 lakh, depending on losses suffered by people,” said Sawant.  

“The remaining people will get relief through transfer on their bank accounts. Assessment of losses by farmers is in the last phase and they too will get compensation once the formalities are completed.”  

Stating that he has written a letter to the central government requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide urgent relief to the people, the chief minister also expressed concern over the losses suffered by other states in the nation due to floods.   

He also called upon people to contact the government in case some affected families were deprived from getting aid or have received meagre aid.   

He also informed about the government plans to felicitate those who have performed laudable job of rescuing people during floods at a function on December 19.   

Speaker Rajesh Patnekar said joint efforts of all components during floods turned out fruitful.   

Stating that the State government has fulfilled the assurance to provide financial aid before Chaturthi, Patnekar requested people to have patience as everybody would get financial aid.  

District Collector R Manaka took the review of the losses suffered by people due to floods.
