VASCO/PORVORIM
The Three Kings Feast was celebrated with traditional fervour on Saturday morning at Cuelim in South and Reis Magos in North.
It was a special celebration with three children depicting the Three Kings and riding on horses to the Our Lady of Remedios Chapel in Cuelim, as the feast of Epiphany or the Three Kings Feast was celebrated with traditional fervour on Saturday morning.
The Feast Mass was celebrated with great reverence and devotion, as hundreds of devotees participated in the services du
ring the feast.
As is the tradition, three lads from the villages of Cansaulim, Arossim and Cuelim, representing three wise kings who had come following the guiding star to worship Baby Jesus on the feast of Holy Epiphany, arrived on horses amid musical processions through three different paths and meet at some distance away from the chapel.
This year, Shaun Jonathan D'Souza, Kelton Antao and Carl Soares were given the privilege of representing the Three Kings. Speaking to the Goan, Lester Gracias, who was elated to see his nephew as one of the kings, said, "I got an opportunity to be a king in 1976 and since then there have been 16 kings from my family," said Gracias.
In Reis Magos, three youth -- Eldridge Rebeiro, Salvador Fernandes and Joylon Sequeira -- were the three kings. Fr Romeo Monteiro celebrated the Mass and delivered the homily.
Later speaking to media persons, Fr Monteiro stated the Reis Magos church was the first church in Bardez which was built by the Franciscans in 1555. "It has been declared as a national monument by the Government of India," he added.
Apart from Reis Magos, the feast of Three Kings is also celebrated in a big way at Cansaulim and Chandor, Fr Monteiro said. "The day is a tribute to the three kings who came with gifts to see the Lord in his infant stage. The most significant aspect of this feast is that although being a Christian festival, it is celebrated by Hindus with equal zeal and passion," he said.
