Goa's Director General of Police, Indra Dev Shukla, IPS, has asked his men to be proactive in investigations of crimes against women and children advising them to register cases and dispose them off on merit and in quick time.
"Cases of molestation and other minor offences, if they involve women or children as victims, have to be registered and disposed off on merit at the earliest," Shukla said in his address to police officers at a workshop.
Beginning on Monday, police officers and investigators are undergoing training on women's safety at a 5-day workshop.
Shukla also advised police personnel to be watchful even in minor and non-cognizable matters keeping suspicious characters under their radar.
There is need for strong investigation and surveillance, he said, adding that even minor and non-cognizible case matters should be inquired by the police.
He also mentioned that in almost 95% of the cases of crimes against women and children, the perpetrator (accused) is known to the victim.
"They are among the family, they are friends, some other close neighbours, etc,” he said, adding that with awareness such crimes can be minimized.
