As heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds was witnessed in many parts of the State, tree falls were also reported which kept the firemen busy.
As for the Old Goa fire station, several tree falling incidents were reported since the wee hours of Sunday morning.
The first call received by the station was that of a mango tree falling across the road at Mandur with a portion of the fallen tree also damaging the Holy Cross chapel.
Immediately, a call came from Carambolim that a huge pipal tree had fallen on two houses.
The Old Goa fire personnel rushed to the site and began the salvage operation, and they were helped by former sarpanch Balchandra Usgaonkar and his brother Dinesh Usgaonkar.
As the tree was huge, it required the expertise of a professional tree cutter Babaji, and the Old Goa firemen informed us that they will be returning on Monday morning to complete the remaining work.
The firemen also cleared a jungle tree which had fallen on the road at Gaonkarwado-Batim.
A call was also received of a jackfruit tree that had fallen on power lines at Santan. However, before the firemen could arrive, the locals themselves cleared the same.
Among others, calls attended by the Old Goa firemen included clearing of a jungle tree which had fallen across the road near Shantadurga temple-Curca, clearing of a jackfruit tree which fell on a car near Vithal temple-Ribandar and clearing a tree which fell on the entrance gate of Greenlawn school-Neura.
