Trees continued to uproot in Canacona, even as rains subsided a bit, bringing relief to the residents in the taluka.
According to fire services, a big tamarind tree came crashing down at Rajbagh which blocked the road for about an hour. Vehicular traffic to Rajbag Tarir was interrupted, as the tree partly blocked the road till fire personnel cleared it.
In another incident, a tree uprooted and fell on the house of Devesh Dessai at Gulem. The house owner suffered damages to the tune of Rs 3000, informed fire services sources.
Incidents of trees falling were also reported in the interior of Shristhal, Gaondongrim and Cotigao villages, however, no damages have been suffered, and many incidents went unreported as locals themselves cleared the debris, informed sources.
Motorists were also inconvenienced after a branch of a tree protruding onto the road, blocking the view of motorists on the NH17 road at Partagal-Chimnem.
Meanwhile, the long power outages continue to irritate residents, keeping the locality without electricity for major parts of the day.
“There was no heavy rains nor much wind on Thursday, but power failures have become a regular
phenomenon in Canacona for a month now,” complained a businessman at Chaudi.
