MARGAO
Agitated over the hardships caused to motorists at the Citizens Service Centre (CSC), the Margao Salcete Truck Owners Association on Saturday set a seven-day deadline on the government to either maintain status quo or face a black flag demonstration before the Margao RTO office.
Addressing the media, Association President Franky Gomes slammed the government, terming it as “insensitive” in addressing the issues plaguing the common man. He said the government’s decision to bring transport services under the Citizens Service Centre has only aggravated matters for the transporters and taxis and motorcycle pilots.
That’s not all. Franky said the motorists are forced to knock the doors of three offices, the RTO office at Osia Commercial Complex, CSC in the District Collectorate and the RTO office at Arlem for the passing of vehicles.
“Why is this government inviting curses from the people by putting them to hardships and inconveniences? The government should either shift the RTO office in the District Collectorate building or provide a CSC facility at the RTO office,” he said, adding that a single-window system will alleviate the hardships faced by the people at the CSC.
To a query, he said the CSC system has been hit by endless delays either due to servers being down or for other reasons. “We cannot make the payments at the CSC for passing of our vehicles even for three hours despite holding the valid token. Sometimes, we are called the next day, but those manning the CSC do not realise that we have to get our vehicles passed before the expiry of the permit,” he said.
Franky said either the government should stop the CSC service for transport department for the moment, or the truck owners and other transporters will be forced to hold a dharna outside the RTO office with black flags.
