Stepping up demands to get the government to link the Tuem hospital to the GMC hospital in Bambolim, the Tuem Hospital Action Committee (THAC) said a torch procession has been organised from the Tuem ITI to the Tuem Hospital on Thursday at 5.30 pm.

Members of the THAC, who are presently on a chain hunger strike to push for their demand, insisted that their agitation is not against any political party, MLA or the government.

Addressing a news conference, THAC Convenor Jose Lobo invited both MLAs from Pernem taluka, all four elected district panchayat members, and all elected representatives from Pernem municipality and village panchayats in Pernem taluka to take part in the torch procession.

Former Mandrem sarpanch and sitting panch Prashant alias Bala Naik said that the THAC is working in the interest and welfare of the people in Pernem taluka.

“The Tuem hospital must be linked to the GMC hospital as it will benefit the people of the entire Pernem taluka,” said Naik.

The THAC members thanked Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar for raising the issue in the ongoing assembly.

Former Parsem sarpanch Devendra Prabhudesai warned that if the community health centre is shifted to the new hospital complex on January 30, the THAC is prepared to launch a strong agitation.
