At a time when the State has been receiving heavy rainfall, residents of Tuem and Paliem in Pernem taluka have been hit by acute water shortage.
A group of angry residents marched to the PWD office in Pernem on Wednesday to air their grievances and demand a solution.
The officer, Sandip Morajkar, assured them to speak to his senior officers and resolve the issue within eight days.
The locals also met former sarpanch Suhas Naik and panch member Uday Mandrekar, who also promised to look into the matter.
Mandrekar said there is a water tank constructed at Gaonkarwada but it has not been inaugurated yet.
“Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has been neglecting this water scarcity issue and if this water tank is connected with pipes, locals can get water supply,” said Mandrekar.
Locals complained that residents at Sonyem-Paliem in the Tuem panchayat area have been suffering from erratic water supply for the past six months and the problem continued even during the monsoon.
They claimed that some pipelines come from Dhargal and water supply gets affected in those houses which are located at a height or the tail-end. The locals complained that their relatives have even stopped visiting their homes due to this water scarcity.
