Tuem residents confront PWD officials over water shortage

Irked over the acute water shortage since the past eight days, angry locals of Murmuse-Tuem confronted PWD (water department) officials on Wednesday and threatened to prevent their entry into the office if water supply is not restored within 24 hours.   

A delegation of around 20 locals marched to the PWD (water division) office at Tuem and gheraoed the officials over the water shortage. 

The angry locals them took the assistant engineer to the main water tank to explain the reason for the water shortage.   

The residents then climbed up the water tank and found that a big pipeline was diverted to the Tuem Industrial Estate, while small pipeline was diverted to residential areas, causing further anger among villagers.   

When asked for an explanation for the diversion of water to the Tuem Industrial Estate, the assistant engineer said he had notified senior authorities to provide a bigger pipeline for residential areas and was awaiting their response in the matter.   

The engineer informed the locals that has has also requested the replacement of old pump to resolve water supply issues.
