Bharatiya Janata Party MLA-elect from Navelim constituency, Ulhas Tuemkar has said his victory in the election is not a fluke or has come about due to a split in the non-BJP vote, but that the people of Navelim has stood by him despite attempts by three former Chief Ministers to defeat the party in the husting.
Even as Tuemkar took out an impressive victory rally in Navelim constituency to celebrate party’s victory after the Lotus bloomed in Navelim for the first time, he said it is for the party leadership to decide whether to reward him with any position in the new government.
He further said that some of the local party leaders and workers did not work for his candidature, adding that he would bring the matter before the party leadership for action.
“As many as three former Chief Ministers, Luizinho Faleiro and Churchill Alemao in support of Valanka Alemao and Digambar Kamat for Avertano Furtado had descended in Navelim constituency to defeat me in the election. But, the people of Navelim decided to rally behind the BJP to usher development in the constituency,” he said.
Saying that the BJP has come a long way in Navelim since the last two decades, Tuemkar said party workers played a big role behind the party’s victory, having slogged and worked hard in the constituency to take the various government schemes to the door steps of the people. “Despite the constituency not been represented by the party, the BJP did not neglect Navelim as evident by the projects executed over the years. People have reposed their trust in me and the party and we will now deliver to the people with renewed vigour,” he assured.
BJP minority leader Urfan Mulla said the minorities too had rallied behind the party candidate Ulhas Tuemkar in the husting, saying the party would take all sections of the people together to bring about further development of the constituency.
