PERNEM

Two groups sparred over the suicide of a youth from Parcem-Pernem on Wednesday.

According to reports, Gurudas Parsekar (40) allegedly ended his life at the Atal Setu in Panaji.

When the autopsy was conducted, the deceased tested positive for Covid, prompting a local group to oppose the final rites to be performed in the village.

The brother of the deceased, Rajnikant Parsekar, filed a police complaint accusing a group of youth of being responsible for his brother’s suicide and sought their arrest in the matter.

Sources said the about three days ago, a police team had allegedly raided a house in Pernem and a group of youth then began abusing Gurudas Parsekar, after accusing him of alerting the police to conduct the raid.

Gurudas Parsekar ended his life at the Atal Setu on Wednesday and when an autopsy was performed the next day, the deceased tested positive for Covid.

A group of locals then objected to the body being brought to the house and the body was finally cremated in the local crematorium.

Meanwhile, former Parcem ZP member Deepak Kalangutkar demanded an enquiry into the death of Gurudas Parsekar.
