The Panaji Police on Fridayarrested two persons for allegedly impersonating personalassistant and driver of an IASOfficer and cheating severallocal youths on the pretextof providing them with government jobs.
The accused,as per police records, haveduped various job aspirantsand a cab owner of Rs 2.23crore approx.As per Panaji Police, DinkarSawant and his accompliceSamir Dhawaskar impersonated the PA and the driver,respectively, of the IAS officer“ who currently holds one ofthe top positions in the Stategovernment.
They were arrested basedon a complaint filed by oneMukesh Naik of Ponda whoaccused the duo of cheatinghim to the tune of Rs 10.55lakh on the pretext of offeringa contract to hire a luxury carin a starred hotel.
During the investigation,the police stumbled upontheir criminal backgroundwherein Dhawaskar pretended to be the IAS officer’s driverand took money from severalgullible job seekers.
“The accused had promised the victims to get themrecruited in government departments. Through this modus operandi, the accusedcollected Rs 2.12 crore approxfrom them,” the police said,adding the accused were inhiding after the complaintbut were traced through intelligence reports and subsequently arrested for theoffense.
