PANAJIThe government has reconstituted the monitoring committees of forest rights applicationsin six talukas of Sattari, Ponda,Dharbandora, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona.
These committees monitorthe process of scrutinizing applications for forest rights ofscheduled tribes and other forest dwellers under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognitionof Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
These committees play acrucial role in recognisingand vesting the forest rights inthese applicants.The deputy collector of eachof these six talukas heads therespective committees in whichare also included some electedrepresentatives (panchayatmembers) of villages in the respective jurisdiction.
These committees also playthe role of creating awarenessof the procedures involvedin securing forest rights andalso ensure that gram sabhaswhere these applications aretaken up for approval are heldin a free and fair manner
