MARGAO
The United Goan Foundation has urged the Managing Director and Chairman of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) to seal the IDC plot on the Verna-Dabolim road for being illegally used for storing sand in the open.
In a letter addressed to the GIDC officials, UGF Chairman Dr Ashish Kamat said the illegal use of the plot allotted to a private company at Verna Industrial Estate on the Verna-Dabolim road for the storage of sand is against the GIDC allotment rules and GIDC manual.
“This blatant violation has been carried out with active collusion of the estate manager of GIDC, area manager and field managers of Verna IE who have on purposely preferred not to take action in the matter. It has been brought to the notice of our organization that GIDC officers are
keeping quiet for obvious reasons,” he said.
“The allottee is not supposed to use the land for storage of sand in the open and also undertake distribution and if at all the same is leased then it has to be registered with GIDC first. It also needs to be verified whether the allottee has acquired the necessary permissions from the GIDC, Department of
Mines, Department of Industries and the local panchayat to carry on the trade of storage and dealing of sand,” Kamat said.
He urged the GIDC to take urgent notice and seal the premises as well as the stock of sand and inquire about the illegality and involvement of the GIDC officers
