An undertrial prisoner allegedly assaulted a fellow inmate with a carrom board inside the Central Jail at Colvale, leaving him with serious facial injuries.
According to a complaint filed by Deputy Superintendent of Central Jail, Colvale, N B Pavane, the incident took place on July 19 at around 4 pm in Block No. 3, Cell No. 4/5 of the prison.
Police said the accused, identified as Mohammad Shainsha, allegedly abused fellow undertrial prisoner Mohammad Ashraf using foul language before attacking him with a carrom board.
Ashraf suffered fractures to his left eye socket and cheekbone in the assault. The accused also allegedly threatened to kill him over a previous dispute, police said.
Based on the complaint, Colvale Police have registered an offence under Sections 352, 118(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
