Union Education Ministry directs States and UTs to implement ge of 6+ for grade 1 admissions from 2024-25

The Union Education Ministry has issued a directive to all states and union territories, urging them to implement the age requirement of 6+ years for Grade 1 admission from the 2024-25 academic session. The decision aligns with the provisions outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.

The ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to these guidelines in a letter from the education secretary. The directive aims to ensure uniformity in age criteria across regions and maintain compliance with the NEP 2020 and RTE Act. States and UTs have been instructed to confirm alignment with the age requirement for Grade 1 admissions and report the implementation status to the concerned authorities.
