A high level team of BSNL officials visited Cuncolim on Saturday in a bid to try and fix the situation created by the staff of the contractor of Electricity Department who cut the Optic Fibre Cable (OFC) which provides internet connection to the BSNL fibre to the home (FTTH) consumers of Cuncolim.
The BSNL team consisted Basavaraj, DGM Transmission, Raguvir Parab, Divisional Engineer Transmission, Ganesh, Sub Div Engg Transmission and Sandeep Chaudary, JTO, South Goa Fibre Optic Cable Transmission.
On February 20, the OFC was cut at around 8.35 pm and the same was restored on February 21, after the BSNL engineers rerouted the connections via Sanvordem so that customers of Cuncolim could have the connections back on track.
However till date the actual fault which was caused by the cutting of cables by the Electricity Department contractor along the highway near KTC bus stand, Cuncolm has still not been identified as the persons who cut the wires have abandoned the work on the highway.
Cuncolim Civic & Consumer Forum (CCCF) Secretary, Lorna Fernandes said the NGO is now given to understand that no permission was taken from the PWD NH by the Electricity Department contractor to dig trenches along the Highway at Cuncolim to lay the underground electricity cables.
On Thursday night after being questioned by the PWD officials on permission to dig, the contractor’s staff took their equipment and disappeared. The Reliance Jio OFC was also damaged by the Electricity Department contractor’s staff, Lorna said.
The CCCF Secretary, who visited the spot and met with the BSNL officials have requested that an official complaint be lodged against the Electricity Department contractor and an appropriate demand note be raised to recover the losses.
The CCCF also requested Rajiv Samant SE (South) Electricity Department to depute some department engineers to assist the BSNL team at Cuncolim.
